Winter at Fairchild

Humans that come from the North say that this is the most wonderful season in Florida.
I totally disagree. Who can possibly love Winter?
Nights are cold, insects are scarcely found and you have to walk a lot to find colorful flowers.

But as my uncle says anyone is free to make theories.

Anyway you can find here and there interesting details.

Like this Sweet Almond Bush. Last bees are visiting it every day...

All Eucalyptus are perennial and all of them smell good...

Miami ING Half Marathon 2011

Last Sunday I went to Downtown Miami with my cousin. We did what always do -jumping on a car and feeling the breeze until the car stops, then getting off and running at full speed to the next tree available.

Well, what can I say... If it's always like that it's the last time in my life that I go downtown!

Ah! the Ramble III

And believe me. The music band was heavenly! Specially because kids were so busy with instruments that they hadn't time for any mischief...

Ah, the Ramble!

Ah the Ramble! That's a feast! Even with my small brains I remember it from last year and I was longing for it.

Last weekend for three days Fairchild was filled with color and laughs.

Ceiba speciosa or Silk floss tree

I told you yesterday. Today I will start with thorns. You can complain as much as you wish, but the thorns of the Ceiba trunk are... glory! No other tree saved me more times from ugly big animals... and kids.

Yes, definitely if you have kids at home rather you don't plant that tree in any accessible spot.

Ceiba insignis or Silk floss tree

I was telling you yesterday that I climbed to a Ceiba tree to avoid the mob of dogs that came in.

Today and tomorrow I will show you two Ceiba tree species that you can find at Fairchild.

Today I will show you the flowers of the Ceiba insignis; tomorrow the thorns. That's life!
